I have trouble saying no. To shoes, handbags, the dessert tray…you name it. But when I agreed to plan last-minute engagement bash for a spoiled Mafia princess, I had no idea she’d demand that my sexy ex cater it. He’ll agree to work for me, but only if I agree to spend a weekend with him. Did I mention my weakness for a**holes with tattoos? "Melanie Harlow's sassy, sweet, and oh, so sexy Frenched series stands out in the romantic comedy genre. You're certain to fall in love along with each of her perfectly flawed characters." -- Laurelin Paige, NYT Bestselling Author

Forked Frenched Volume 2 Melanie Harlow 9781502896636 Books

Forked is the second book in the "Frenched" series.
It was a sweet, second chance romance.
Coco has had it with living with her family. She wants her own house. And she's found the perfect fixer-upper. It may be way out of her price range, and in seriously bad condition, but this is the one, it "spoke" to her. She'll do whatever it takes to get that house. Even if it means getting her ex to cook for a last minute party. Her ex...husband. Who left her in their honeymoon bed with his ring and a note saying the marriage was a mistake. The same ex she has not seen or spoken to for over seven years.
Nick has just one condition, he'll do the party, if she spends the weekend with him. Yeah, easier said than done. As it turns out, they both still love each other. But there is are also feelings of hurt, anger, betrayal and lots of secrets. Nick needs to come clean and explain his reasons for lying and leaving. And Coco needs to decide if she can ever forgive Nick and move forward.
Both Frenched and Forked can be read as standalones but they do interact with each other. So while reading the first is not necessary, it does complement this one. Both are great. Well written and such fun characters.

Forked Frenched Volume 2 Melanie Harlow 9781502896636 Books Reviews

Forked is a second chance romance with a nod to Tiny from Melanie Harlow's Speak Easy/ Speak Low duet. I enjoyed reading the historical duet and really liked the tie in to this novel as Nick's ancestor. Coco is an event coordinator trying to make her client happy, even when that means asking a favor from her ex. Nick is a celebrity chef and local restaurant owner that uses the favor to spend the weekend with Coco.
The past doesn't want to stay in the past, and there are two sides to every story. Nick and Coco have fiery chemistry, and Noni and Sitty are both sweethearts. The epilogue is beautiful as well.
Are you ready to get Forked? We met Coco Thomas in Frenched. She’s Mia’s BFF and business partner. I enjoyed her commentary in Frenched and was excited to hear her story. Oh man … Melanie Harlow did not disappoint. I love the way she writes female characters. They are funny, supportive, kind, and fiercely protective of their friends. And, of course, they have a little emotional baggage. Don’t we all? Coco’s internal dialogue was hilarious! I was wondering how different her voice would be from Mia’s, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was different. Of course, you could see why they are BFFs, but you get a distinctly different personality from Coco.

As Mia takes time off of work to prepare for her wedding in France (*insert fangirl squees here*), Coco takes on a new client. Wait until you meet Angelina. I had some serious laugh out loud moments here. This new client leads her to walk back into her ex’s life. She hasn’t seen Nick Lupo in seven years … He was her college boyfriend and first love. There are a few flashbacks so we hear about their tumultuous passionate relationship and the events leading up to The Big Break Up. Damn. This is some heavy s***. And it made my heart hurt for Coco. There’s just something so special about that first love and those memories from your late teens and early 20s. I really enjoyed reading about their past relationship. And I was dying to meet Nick … who did he grow up to be?

Mm. Nick Lupo. Oh Christmas. He is dreamy. He’s gorgeous, sexy, tattooed, confident, a chef, and completely self-made. (Side note I love self-made people in real life and get so excited when I read about them.) Nick is not perfect. He’s made some mistakes in the past, but he’s ready to come clean and move forward. God. Trust me. You want Nick Lupo to move forward with you. There’s a certain baking scene in this book that will leave your mouth watering … baking with Nick Lupo is highly erotic.

I have to say the pace of the book is awesome. I was slightly nervous when I read the synopsis … I hoped I wouldn’t be reading a “will they or won’t they” book for a few hundred pages … Mel does not do this to us. We get a lot of action up front and it leads to some lovely angst and quite the fun-filled wild ride including some hot as heck car sex. Ahem. Coco & Nick have such a beautiful love story. Their past sets the foundation for something special … if they can get passed it. Will they?

All in all, I loved this book. I’m a huge fan of Melanie Harlow’s writing. She writes beautiful and dirty sex scenes that make me squirm. Her characters are fresh, witty, and charming. She’s the real deal.

Lastly, here’s a little teaser for you … people who’ve read the Speak Easy series will be in for an exciting surprise. I was giddy.
I liked the premise of the story but wasn't as fun to read as I'd hoped. One thing that bugged me was that I never got over the fact that the hero cheated on the heroine multiple times when they were younger. I just can't tolerate that in romance heroes, even though he was 'young and stupid'. There were a few other things I didn't like, but overall it was okay.
I enjoyed FRENCHED a lot, with its smooth plot, mature banter and good characterizations. Ms. Harlow describes the background well, to, making me feel as if I were in the scenes. While I felt Ms. Harlow did a great job with those same aspects in FORKED, I felt that Coco was unjust too many times to Nick, even if she admitted it herself.

I liked that Ms. Harlow kept Coco true to form, an impulsive 28 year-old who was struggling to be more "grown up". I know people like her and I have to admit, she was portrayed accurately. What bothered me most were some scathing remarks she made to Nick in the heat of the moment that bordered on abusive. Mind you, this is in my opinion.

Nick was a doll, though I have to agree with Coco's assessment of his devotion to her. Not only did he fail to fight for her 7 years earlier, he does the same thoughtless behavior now, as they are attempting to see if there's a future for them. And all he offers is a lame apology and a week worth of trinkets. Sorry, doesn't cut it.

Still I enjoy Ms. Harlow's storytelling style and will read FLOORED.

Finally, what's with the cover? A belly button piercing was never mentioned anywhere.
